My name is Masato Murakami, Head Practitioner & Clinic Director of Murakami Acupuncture Clinic.
One of my guiding principles as a practitioner is that treatment should not leave either the patient or the practitioner exhausted.
To help release my patients' tension, I often use gentle rocking movements and shoulder rotations. As I do so, I allow my own body to relax and move naturally as well.
I use the "waves" created by gentle rocking movements to release tension. I imagine those waves being returned to me, allowing my own body to relax as well.
Waves are important to me.
When we hold tension, the waves stop there.
Human beings carry electricity, and electricity moves in waves.
Perhaps this is what it means when people say they are on the same wavelength.
I use these waves to help release tension.
The same is true when I insert acupuncture needles.
Of course, I myself must be free of tension first.
When inserting a needle, I relax my arm and let it “fall” naturally with gravity.
At the end of that relaxed arm is the needle. I imagine that my fingertip simply happens to touch it there.
The "wave" created as my arm falls travels into the needle, and from the needle into the patient.
While maintaining a stable axis through the center of my body, I let my arms, legs, and even my head remain free of tension.
My hope is that we can relax together and become healthier together.
